Question by leftcoastliz: Seniors, what holiday treats from your area would you like to plug?
Can we find them online or in the supermarkets?
I’d suggest that you help out the ailing California economy by seeking out Kenwood Vineyards & other California wineries, Korbel Champagne & Brandy, & Kozlowski Farm’s jams, fruit spreads, mustard (hot & spicy!), pancake syrup, chutney, & on & on. I don’t see the pomegranate fruit spread with no sugar added that I love. It’s quite a treat, though a little expensive; you could send them a query if you want something unique from a small business. Boxed sets & gift baskets? Absolutely.
I called Korbel this morning about a glitch in their website, not letting me in with my senior birth date.
Meanwhile, look in your grocery store for these & look at farmers’ markets & at such things as craft sales, book stores, & even thrift shops for other ideas. Surely, as adults, we can find a few things that aren’t from China for ourselves & without becoming overly materialistic.
I’ve said my piece. What are your own local favorites? Which state?
Mr. Grillparzer, if that orchestra plays any classical Russian music, I’d probably love it. My favorite music, though, is the Gandharva Ved music from ancient India. At such times, I’d be happy to support another country playing either of these types of music or our own state’s musicians playing this music, if it were in range of my budget, an important restriction. You’re right, though, I rarely go to a musical performance.
Patti, I can vouch for the quality of the products from Shawnee Mills & Oklahoma’s honey. I enjoyed both while my mother was still alive. I’m not a fan of pecans, but many people are. I much prefer the walnuts & walnut pie here. Some folks enjoy both walnuts & pecans.

I think your idea of treats may be slightly different then mine. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra plays in D.C. next week!
